Mizoram: Seven MNF, two independent MDCs in Lai council join ZPM

Aizawl: At least seven Mizo National Front (MNF) MDCs (Members of the District Council) and two independent in Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC) in Mizoram on Thursday switched to the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) camp.

ZPM vice president W. Chhuanawma, who is also the government deputy chief whip, inducted the members into the party during a function held at LADC hall in Lawngtlai on Thursday

The MDCs who joined the ZPM party include seven members who quit MNF  on April 4. They are Manghmunga Chinzah, BN Thangpuia, CL Lianzuala, V. Zathanga, T. Lalengmuana, Tuturu Singh, and L. Lalhmachhuana. 

Two Independent MDCs, N. Language and L.R. Dingliana Chinzah, also joined the ZPM.

Addressing the gathering,  Chhuanawma urged the MDCs to work for the development of the state and strive for a corruption-free state.

He highlighted the party’s commitment towards transparent governance.

“When ZPM won the 2023 assembly polls and LADC was then not in a position to form a solid government, our party could have easily formed a government. Since we do not want to repeat previous governments’ misuse of power in district councils, we refrained from such activities.” Chhuanawma said.

He urged the people of Lawngtlai to support the ZPM in the upcoming by-poll to Chandmary constituency and village council elections in LADC and promised a stable government in the council if elected.

The MNF-Congress coalition is currently in power in the LADC.
