Aizawl: Mizoram’s Sports Minister, Lalnghinglova Hmar, has expressed the state’s keenness to host the National Games in 2032.
During a recent meeting with Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in New Delhi, Hmar conveyed Mizoram’s readiness to welcome the national sporting event and emphasized the need to include sports infrastructure projects under the Ministry’s purview.
In addition to hosting the National Games, Hmar informed Rijiju that Mizoram is actively preparing athletes to participate in the 2036 Olympics.
A two-day sports conclave held in Aizawl earlier this year aimed to nurture world-class athletes from the state who can represent India on the global stage.
Recognizing the importance of skill development for minorities, Hmar urged Rijiju to include relevant schemes under his ministry.
In response, Rijiju assured Hmar that he would explore opportunities to support Mizoram’s sports and skill development initiatives through the Minority Affairs Ministry.
He also confirmed having discussed the matter with Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
Furthermore, Hmar met with members of NITI Aayog to discuss potential collaborations.
He highlighted the state government’s desire to partner with the Centre’s think tank to enhance the skills of Mizo youth and facilitate their employment prospects.
