Mizoram records highest single day count as 46 people tested positive for Covid-19

Mizoram on Tuesday recorded 46 new confirmed Covid-19 positive cases.

This is the highest single day count in the State since the first case was reported on March 24, an official of state health department said.

The total tally in the state rose to 93 of which 92 are active cases.

Among them, 49 are male and 44 are female.

According to the official, out of the 459 samples tested since Monday, 46 people, including 31 females, have tested positive for the deadly disease.

He said the cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Tuesday afternoon.

Of the 46 newly infected patients, 23 have returned from Delhi and Noida, six from Goa, four from Haryana, three from Bangalore and two each from West Bengal, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Punjab and Uttarakhand, he said.

Fortythree of the patients are from Lunglei district, two from Aizawl and one from Lawngtlai district, he said.

He said the newly detected patients aged between 18 -33 have been placed under quarantine since their arrival to the State.

Two of them have been already admitted at hospitals while the rest are still lodged at quarantine facilities.

They will be shifted to ZMC and COVID-19 care centres in their respective districts, he said.

According to the official, the government has begun testing of pooled samples from Tuesday.

He said results of more than 300 samples were awaited.

According to an official statement issued by state information and public relations department, 2,747 samples have been tested till date.

As many as 13,659 Rapid Antibody Tests (RATs) have been conducted so far, it said.

An official of the task group on quarantine facilities told Northeast Now that a total of 8,748 people are currently placed under quarantine while 4,138 people have been discharged from quarantine facilities so far.

He said more than 192 churches have offered their halls for quarantine facilities till Monday.

The first patient, who tested positive on March 24, has recovered and discharged from hospital on May 9.
