“He has been the pillar of strength in the party, our guiding force while in opposition, but for the larger interests of the party we have to issue the order,” C Lalpianthanga said.

Earlier the Congress Disciplinary Committee served the vice president, who is also the Home Minister of Mizoram, a show cause notice asking him to clarify several statements which he had made in the local media which the committee saw as disloyal to the Congress party.

“The committee has learned that despite our plea to clarify several statements you have made, you derided the show cause notice served, and went on to make several moves that can hamper the integrity of the Congress party. We have no other option but to issue the order,” said the disciplinary statement.
