Aizawl: Polling for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram will be held on April 19, a senior official said in Aizawl on Saturday. 

State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Madhup Vyas said that the Election Commission on Saturday announced that voting for 543 Lok Sabha seats in the country will be held in seven phases and Mizoram will vote its single seat in the first phase on April 19.

Counting of votes will be held on June 4, he said.

The last date for filing nomination is March 27, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is fixed on March 30.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on March 28.

Vyas said that more than 8.6 lakh electorates, including 4.41 lakh female voters will exercise their franchise in the upcoming Lok Shabha polls in the state. 

Among 8.6 lakh voters, there are 36,214 young voters (18-19 years), 4,758 senior citizens (85+ age), 3,399 Person with Disabilities (PwD) voters and 4,980 service voters, he said.

There are 1,276 polling stations across the state, according to the CEO.

He said that 15 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in addition to 3,000 state police personnel will be deployed across the state during  the upcoming Lok Shabha polls. 

The CEO also sought the active cooperation, close collaboration and constructive partnership of all  stakeholders, especially the media community, in the electoral process and strives to employ the collective synergies towards delivering a smooth, free, fair, peaceful, inclusive, participative and festive Lok Sabha elections.
