Mizoram chief secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo on Wednesday said more than 1,700 stranded people are yet to return to the State.
He said that majority of them are stranded in Delhi and adjoining areas.
However, the number could increase as many people could not return during the previous schedule, he said.
“About 1,000 people have registered to return from Delhi and adjoining areas. There are many others stranded in other parts of the country,” he told reporters.

According to Chuaungo, as many as 6,373 stranded state residents have returned by special trains from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Goa and other parts of the country during the nationwide lockdown.
Apart from them, more than 1,000 people have come back home from other north-eastern states, he said.
He said a total of 1360 stranded people returning from Maharashtra by a special train would be offloaded at Guwahati due to damage of railway tracks between Badarpur and Lumding in Assam.
“As the repairing of the railway lines will take some more days, the stranded people are hoped to be brought back home by road transport in consultation with the Assam government,” he said.
On imposition of total lockdown or stricter guidelines after the state reported 12 new cases on Tuesday, the chief secretary said the government felt complacent with the existing guideline and there was not a necessity to place the State under total lockdown.

However, he said stricter lockdown rules might be framed in consultation with state disaster management and rehabilitation department if need be.
Meanwhile, an official said that Thantluanga, a proprietor of Hauva and Sons, a manufacturing enterprise of water tanks, donated Rs 21 lakh to the government for purchase of RT-PCR machine.
