Several non-government organizations of Mizoram on Tuesday appealed to the Bru refugees to return to their home state on or before September 30.

The NGOs appealed to the Bru refugees lodged in six relief camps in Tripura to abide by the quadripartite agreement between the Centre, the governments of Tripura and Mizoram and the Mizoram Bru Displaced Peoples Forum, the apex body of displaced Bru families in Tripura.

The NGO Co-Ordination Committee, a conglomerate of all major civil society groups and student organizations in Mizoram, convened a meeting and passed a resolution appealing to the Bru families to return to Mizoram.

This was informed by the president of Young Mizo Association (YMA) Vanlalruata on Tuesday.

The coordination committee of the Mizoram NGOs also lashed out at Mamit district Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chaudhary for conducting electoral revision of Bru voters at relief camps despite stiff opposition from the NGOs.

Earlier, the committee had opposed the revision of Bru electorates at relief camps and said no Bru-related electoral process should be conducted outside the state of Mizoram.

Referring to the promise made by the Election Commission in 2014, the committee appealed to the poll panel that all Bru voters should be asked to exercise franchise in their respective polling station in Mizoram in the ensuing Assembly elections.

The coordination committee of the NGOs also appealed to all the authorities concerned to materialize the repatriation process at the earliest.
