Five persons from Mamit township were taken for interrogation by the district police special investigating team overseeing the case of stolen Bru refugees election documents on Wednesday.

Police sources from Mamit said that the five persons were taken into custody for interrogation regarding the loss of Form 6, 7 & 8 of verified Bru voters list from the Mamit election branch office last week.

On the night of August 23, Electoral Roll Special Revision Form 6,7 & 8 of the Bru refugees were stolen by some miscreants from Election Office at Mamit. According to Jacob Hlychho, SDPO Mamit and team leader of the SIT, all the arrested were employees of the election office.

“Technically they are being taken into custody for interrogation, at this point of time they cannot be charged as alleged,” Hlychho said.

The Mizoram Bru Displaced People Coordination Committee, (MBDPCC) in a statement extended their sincere thanks to the state government of Mizoram for probing the loss and damage of Form 6, 7 & 8 of verified Bru voters which were kept at the Mamit election branch office of Mamit district.

“The MBDPCC is very happy and the action is a commendable effort of the Mizoram Police and sincerely hope that culprits would be nabbed soon,” a statement issued by T Laldingliana, President of MBDPCC said.

The MBDPCC also expressed their deep sense of gratitude to the Election Commission of India for issuing a mandatory order to conduct an electoral revision at the Bru relief camps of North Tripura after the lapse of eight years.
