Landslide on NH 54 cut off Serchhip town from Southern Mizoram on Thursday. All roads from Serchhip linking southern Mizoram are now blocked due to landslide.
Earlier this week Serchhip to Thenzawl road was cut off by landslide. Incessant downpour, landslides and floods have wreaked havoc in different parts of Mizoram.
“The entire hillock, through which the highway runs, has slided. It will take months and months to rebuild the highway. The township of Serchhip has been very busy this week. Several houses have to be evacuated due to landslides,” Kapliana Pachuau, a senior journalist from Serchhip told Northeast Now.
Meanwhile in Tlabung sub division about 200 houses have been submerged by the rising waters of Khawthlangtuipui rendering more than 300 families homeless.
“Makeshift camps are being set up at the town’s community hall and high school. At this point of time, it is very difficult to sum up the magnitude of destruction by the flood. All agricultural lands along the river are completely wiped out, not to mention the houses destroyed by the flood,” K Beihmotaosa, sub divisional police officer of Tlabung said.
