Torrential rainfall in Manipur and Mizoram in the last few days has caused massive landslides and flash floods in several parts of both the states.

In Manipur, the capital city of Imphal has been totally inundated by flash flood caused by incessant rain over the last couple of days.

Meanwhile, the State Government has declared Wednesday as a holiday for all government offices, educational institutions and other commercial establishments.

However, essential services like the Police Department, Fire Serivices, Water Resource, Health & Family Welfare Department and hospitals, Revenue, PWD, PHED, municipalities, deputy commissioners and SDOs are exempted from the purview of this holiday.

Earlier, a mudslide has rendered the busy Churachandpur-Henglep road dangerous to ply on, and cut off most villages in Pherzawl district.

Allegations are rife that the Biren Singh led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of not fulfilling its promise to complete road repair work on time.

In Mizoram, more than 100 houses in Tiperabagh, 70 houses in Serhuan village and 30 houses in Tlabung town are under water.

Rescue operations are currently going on at various places to evacuate stranded locals.

The Mizoram government declared a two-day holiday after landslides blocked roads and caused large-scale destruction.

Flooding has been reported in Lunglei and Aizwal districts. The showers have damaged crops, roads, electrical lines and pavements.

A mudslide has obstructed the access to the Lengpui Airport, even as the local administration is trying its best to clear the road.

Meanwhile, the state disaster management agency said more than 1,000 people have been evacuated from the flooded districts.
