AIZAWL: In another significant achievement in the fight against drug smuggling, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Mizoram police seized 47 grams of heroin worth Rs 32.9 lakh in Zokhawthar, Champhai on the Indo-Myanmar border, Assam Rifles said in a statement.
Based on specific intelligence regarding the transhipment of illegal drugs, a joint team of Assam Rifles, COB Zokhawthar, and the Police Department set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post to intercept suspicious individuals, it said.

A thorough search led to the recovery of 47 grams of heroin concealed in a bag, it said.
A 20-year-old Myanmar national identified as Vanneihce has been arrested for possessing the contraband, the statement added.

The joint team also seized a mobile phone with two SIM cards (Airtel and Jio).
Assam Rifles said that the involvement of foreign nationals in smuggling operations continues to highlight the increasing threat of drug trafficking across the Indo-Myanmar border.

The seizure of heroin is another testament to the growing challenge posed by narcotics smuggling in Mizoram, leading to severe social consequences and the loss of lives.
The individual and the seized contraband have been handed over to Zokhawthar police for further investigation and legal proceedings, the statement added.
