The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles has recovered 10 cases of smuggled cigarettes of foreign in Zokhawthar village in Mizoram’s Champhai district.
Based on specific inputs, a joint team of Assam Rifles jawans and officials of the state customs department conducted an operation in Zokhawthar on Wednesday.
The smuggled cigarettes are estimated to be worth Rs 13 lakhs.
Cross-border smuggling activities of different goods, including narcotics are becoming a major problem in Mizoram.
Despite the Assam Rifles in collaboration with the state police and departments concerned carrying out different operations in Mizoram, they have not succeeded in rooting out illegal smuggling activities.
