Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday urged members of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) to partner with the government in building a better society and a peaceful state.

Addressing a YMA conference at Khawzawl in the eastern part of the state, Lalduhoma said the Mizos were fortunate to have an organisation like the YMA, which unites people across communities and works tirelessly for social welfare.

“YMA is a unique organisation that plays an irreplaceable role in safeguarding society and strengthening the state,” he said, adding that the organisation is an invaluable asset to Mizoram.

Highlighting the increasing impact of substance abuse on young people, Lalduhoma lauded the YMA’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, “Ruihhlo Do” (Fight Against Drugs), and said the state government was intensifying its crackdown on narcotics while also focusing on rehabilitation for addicts.

“In almost every major initiative undertaken by the government, YMA has remained one of our strongest partners,” he said, expressing gratitude for the organisation’s continued support.

The Chief Minister also underscored the YMA’s contribution to preserving Mizo cultural values and traditions, saying Mizoram’s hospitality and social values were earning widespread appreciation from tourists visiting the state.

He noted that eastern Mizoram has shown strong agricultural productivity and announced that the government is implementing several developmental projects to accelerate growth in the region.

Lalduhoma said that the Ginger Unique Selling Proposition Project, worth nearly Rs 190 crore, was launched recently, and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) had sanctioned Rs 30.13 crore on Thursday for establishing a processing unit.

The facility will be established in and around Champhai for the benefit of all eastern region districts, he said.

Stressing that sustainable development can only thrive in an environment of peace and tranquillity, Lalduhoma urged YMA members to continue protecting peace, social harmony, forests, and wildlife.
