The BJP Chakma Autonomous District Council in Mizoram has welcomed the Centre’s decision to discontinue the centrally-sponsored District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Administration scheme.
“The BJP-led NDA government under the dynamic leadership of PM Narendra Modi on Thursday (November 4) took a landmark decision over the discontinuation of the Centrally sponsored District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Administration scheme,” the BJP Chakma Autonomous District Council said in a statement.

The official order stated that it shall cover all states/UTs and that the states/UTs may merge the DRDAs with Zila Parishad/Zila Panchayats of the states/UTs.

Where there are no ZPs in the Northeastern states, the DRDA may be merged with the District Councils or any other body, as may be decided by the state government, according to the order.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party of Chakma Autonomous District Council whole-heartedly welcomes the historic decision,” the BJP-CADC statement said.

The BJP-CADC has thanked PM Narendra Modi for “fulfilling the longstanding aspirations of the BJP Coordination Committee of Chakma, Lai and Mara Autonomous District Councils of Mizoram who continuously pursued this”, the statement said.
BJP-CADC also felt that “this is one of the initiatives of the BJP-led NDA government for enhancing the powers of the District Councils of the Northeastern states at the grassroots level”.
In the backdrop of this order, the BJP-CADC demanded the state government of Mizoram to transfer all administrative and financial powers including the schemes under DRDA to the respective Autonomous District Councils of Mizoram immediately.
