With the people of Mizoram coming together to help the victims of the BSUP (Basic Services to the Urban Poor) building collapse, over Rs nine lakhs was handed over to the Leitan Branch YMA from various churches, organizations, individuals and associations over the past few weeks.

An official programme was held to distribute such funds to the victims on Saturday at the Leitan YMA hall.

The Leitan Branch YMA President, K Lalzuiliana said he was happy to see people coming together from various parts of Mizoram to help the victims of the unfortunate disaster.

He said the funds received were distributed on the basis of the victim’s plights and was given to the bereaved family of those who had lost their loved ones, to the injured, to those whose belongings had been destroyed and to people who resided in the complex.

The president said he hopes the victims will make good use of the money they have received.

The Leitan Branch YMA Secretary, Dr C Lalrammuana said while the records of the UD&PA showed just 118 families residing in the BSUP complex, the funds were distributed to 150 families and there are still a few families who are yet to receive aid.

The secretary thanked the NGOs, churches, individuals and associations who made a generous contribution not just financially but also extended help by donating food and clothes.
