The Mizoram government on Thursday announced 5 per cent reservation in state government jobs for meritorious sportspersons.
The state government took the decision to promote excellence in sports and make sports a more attractive career option.
An office memorandum issued by the state personnel and administrative reforms department said: “Five per cent of vacancies in Group B, C, and D posts, can be reserved for being filled by outstanding sportsperson who have represented the country in international level, who have represented the state in national level competitions, recognized by Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, inter-university tournaments, and who have represented state school teams in national games.”
The appointment, which is to be made by direct recruitment, is also reserved for meritorious sportspersons, who have represented their district and won gold medal at state level games, the memorandum said.
Direct recruitment can be made in 28 sports disciplines, including football, boxing and cricket, provided the applicant fulfills the eligibility criteria.
The upper age limit is up to 5 years (10 years in case of applicant belonging to SC and ST) for the appointment.
First preference will be given to such sportspersons who have represented the country in international level.
The directorate of sports and youth service is assigned an authority to issue certificate for determination of the eligibility of sportsperson for direct recruitment to vacancies reserved for sportspersons.
