19 more inmates of Aizawl central jail have tested positive for Covid-19 to make up a single-day count to 226 with a positivity rate of 7.20 per cent on Thursday, a health official said. 

Earlier on Wednesday, as many as 103 prisoners of the central jail were found infected with the infection, the official said.

There are currently 160 Covid-19 patients in the central jail, he said. 

He said that the state also reported one more Covid-19 fatality in the last 24 hours, which took the death toll to 86. 

Mizoram’s Covid-19 count now stands at 18,624, of which 4,442 are active cases, while 14,096 people have recovered from the disease.

Of the 226 fresh cases, Aizawl district reported 140 cases, Kolasib district (37), Lunglei district (31), Siaha district (8), Hnahthial district (5), Lawngtlai district (3), Serchhip and Kolasib districts reported 1 each, the official said. 

41 new cases were confirmed at Zoram Medical College’s RT-PCR laboratory, 12 cases at TrueNat laboratories and the remaining 170 cases were detected through Rapid Antigen Test from various districts, he said. 

54 children, 2 frontline workers and a Border Security Force BSF (BSF) jawan were among the newly infected people, he said. 

Six patients have travel history, while the remaining 220 people were found to have locally contracted the virus. 

Of the 226 patients, 116 have developed symptoms of Covid-19, the official said.

The new cases were detected among 3,136 samples tested in the last 24 hours, he said. 

So far, the state has tested over 4,65 lakh samples for Covid 

The recovery rate among the coronavirus patients in the state stands at 75.68 per cent, while the mortality rate is at 0.46 per cent. 

According to state immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi, over 4.37 lakh people have been inoculated till Wednesday and of this, 53,892 people have received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
