Mizoram’s apex students’ body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) will stage a demonstration on Tuesday at Lengpui airport in Aizawl against Lok Sabha MP C. Lalrosanga.
The influential students’ body has planned protest to express their disapproval against state’s lone Lok Sabha MP Lalrosanga for voting in favour of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

MZP president B Vanlaltana said the protesters will carry banners and wear Mizo traditional shawl- “Pawndum” (indicative of lamentation or sadness) to express their anger and sadness.
He said the MZP has strongly blamed the MP for voting the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) in parliament in December last year against the interest of the Mizo people.
He alleged Lalrosanga had promised to oppose the contentious bill during his campaign trail for the Lok Sabha election in April last year.

“The MP (Lalrosnga) betrayed the people of Mizoram and voted in favour of the bill,” he said.
Lalrosanga had earlier claimed that he was voting in favour the citizenship bill in the parliament as a gratitude to the BJP led NDA government for exempting Mizoram and other scheduled areas of Northeast from the purview of the bill.
Meanwhile, the state government has made elaborate security arrangement to prevent any untoward incident when the MP arrives in Aizawl.
Aizawl district superintendent of police C. Lalruaia said police personnel will be deployed at the airport under the supervision of additional SP Lalmalsawma Hnamte.
He added all the designated officers and personnel were called for briefing in the morning for elaborate security arrangement.
