Mizoram chief minister Lal Thanhawla on Thursday inaugurated India’s first Centre for Disability Studies at Mizoram University in the presence of Union Minister of State, Social Justice & Empowerment Krishanpal Gurjar.

Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla said that it was a privilege to have a centre of the kind in Mizoram, where the topography is most unfriendly to person with disabilities.

“I am deeply honoured to inaugurate this centre, we all know that the hilly terrain of Mizoram is very uncompromising for people with physical disabilities, despite our limitations our government has been trying its best to cater the needs of the differently abled,” Lal Thanhawla said.

Social Justice & Empowerment Minister Gurjar also praised the initiatives of the Mizoram government saying that a centre like Centre for Disability Studies was needed in many other Indian cities.

Centre for Disability Studies is a project of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in collaboration with the Mizoram University
