Mizoram governor, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to open an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) or an AIIMS like super-specialty hospital in Mizoram.

The state’s lone Zoram Medical College was opened in 2018.

The chief minister had said that his government was keen on improving the health sector by establishing full-fledged hospitals in Saitual, Khawzawl and Hnahthial districts.

The Mizoram government also wanted to upgrade the present primary and community health centres in the state.

A need has been felt for more super-speciality hospitals, especially in view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Pillai had gone to New Delhi on December 19 to meet the Prime Minister and discuss the ongoing church row in Kerala.
