Mizoram governor, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to open an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) or an AIIMS like super-specialty hospital in Mizoram.
The state’s lone Zoram Medical College was opened in 2018.

Mizoram chief minister, Zoramthanga had last year met Union minister of state for health and family welfare, Ashwini Kumar Choubey in Delhi requesting him to upgrade the Zoram Medical College to a super specialty hospital cum college.

The chief minister had said that his government was keen on improving the health sector by establishing full-fledged hospitals in Saitual, Khawzawl and Hnahthial districts.

The Mizoram government also wanted to upgrade the present primary and community health centres in the state.
A need has been felt for more super-speciality hospitals, especially in view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Pillai had gone to New Delhi on December 19 to meet the Prime Minister and discuss the ongoing church row in Kerala.
