The Centre is giving preference to illegal migrants in the Northeast, alleged Peopleโ€™s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM).

PRISM president Vanlalruata, protesting against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, said, โ€œThe BJP-led NDA government at the Centre is preferring giving citizenship to aliens.โ€

โ€œThe proposed citizenship bill is harmful to the entire Northeast region,โ€ Vanlalruata added.

He further urged the Centre to reconsider its decision and said Northeast should be exempted from the ambit of the proposed bill.

The Centre has decided to table the contentious bill in the winter session of the parliament which began on Monday and is slated to continue till December 13.

Several organisations in the region have declared a series of protest against the governmentโ€™s decision to pass the contentious bill.

The Northeast Studentsโ€™ Organization (NESO) on Monday launched a series of protests against the bill in every capital cities of the eight Northeastern states.
