In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Assam Rifles troops deployed in Mizoram recovered a consignment of heroin on the Zotlang-Khankawn Road in Champhai district.

The operation was conducted by the Serchhip Battalion of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (East).

During the operation carried out on Friday, the Assam Rifles team recovered 7 soap cases of heroin No. 4.

The approximate value of the recovered consignment of heroin was estimated to be Rs 37,20,000.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of 8 Assam Rifles and 2 Assam Rifles of the Serchhip Battalion of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) on specific information.

The HQ IGAR (East) in a statement said the Customs department of Champhai seized the contraband items and one individual was handed over to Champhai police station in Champhai district.

“Ongoing smuggling of heroin No 4 is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border,” the statement said.

“Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram,” it added.
