The Aizawl Battalion of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), organized a cultural programme at New Vaikhawtlang village in Mizoram’s Champhai district on Thursday.

“Cultural activities are one of many events to improve bonding and connectivity with local people. Group and single traditional Mizo dance was the main activity of the event,” the HQ IGAR (East) said in a statement.

“The event witnessed a participation of civilians and troops. Villagers of New Vaikhawtlang village participated in this event with joy and a great fervour,” it added.

All the village members appreciated the efforts being made by the Aizawl Battalion for organizing such event, it further said.

On Thursday, the Serchhip Battalion of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles organised an ‘Awareness Lecture on Drug Menace’ at Khawbung village in Mizoram’s Champhai district.

The aim of the event was to promote fitness and motivate the villagers not to indulge in drug abuse.

Special emphasis was laid on the importance of awareness against drug abuse and the negative effect on society, the Assam Rifles said in another statement.

“The bad effects on health due to abuse of recreational drugs were also discussed. Khawbung is a border village and ready availability of various kinds of drugs through the porous borders. The locals were advised not to indulge in such illegal activities which can impair their future.”

“Support of women and elders was incorporated to highlight the ill effects of drug abuse. The locals appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles for having organised such events for the betterment of society,” it added.
