As the leaders of BJP and its allies have set their eyes on four poll bound Northeastern states, politicians have now started playing the religious cards to score over their rivals and woo voters. Former chief minister of Mizoram and president of Mizo National Front, Zoramthanga is no exception. For him performing pujas, breaking coconut and smearing tilak by Sonia had cost the Congress dearly in the last elections.
He said that the Congress downfall was imminent after Sonia Gandhi sought blessing from Hindu gods.
Addressing a function held on the occasion of induction of new members of the party at Thingdawl in Kolasib district Zoramthanga said that Sonia Gandhi broke her Christian faith by showing her obeisance to Hindu gods. He was of the opinion that it was God’s wrath that brought the downfall of the Congress in the country.
“By faith she is a Roman Catholic but she sought blessings of the Hindu gods, and thus brought the downfall of the Congress party,” Zoramthanga said.
He reasoned that the downfall of the Congress was due to the anger of God. According to the former Mizoram Chief Minister Sonia invited the wrath of God because she performed puja, smeared tilak despite the fact that she is a Roman Catholic by faith. That is the reason why Congress was washed out in the last elections.
“In 2014 election, the Congress which had almost 300 MPs, had faced poll debacle and its number was reduced to mere 44 only. Sonia is a Roman Catholic by faith, but she performed pujas, broke coconuts, smeared tilaks. I strongly believe that this act of her has angered her God,” Zoramthanga said.
Narrating the chronology of Congress’ collapse in the country before the gathering, Zoramthanga said he was convinced that it was the work of God.
Altogether 385 persons joined the MNF and they were inducted as the new members in the function.
