Guwahati: Actor Kopil Bora is set to return to the big screen after a decade with Surjyamukhi, an upcoming Assamese romantic suspense thriller-drama that brings together a compelling story, an ensemble cast and a musical collaboration featuring some of Assamโ€™s well-known voices.

Produced under the banner of Dibya Cine Production, the film is based on a story by celebrated Assamese lyricist and writer late Birinchi Kumar Medhi and is scheduled for theatrical release on May 7, 2027.

Directed by Antara G.G. Choudhury, Surjyamukhi marks her debut as a feature-film director. A filmmaker, actor and theatre practitioner from Guwahati, Choudhury has spent years working across theatre, television, cinema and short-film production.

The project also brings into focus the creative legacy associated with noted Assamese filmmaker and artist Pulak Gogoi.

The film is produced by Tiluttoma Baruah, a retired Professor of Anthropology at Cotton College, and an educationist, poet, songwriter and research scholar. Her second venture as a film producer brings together her interests in literature and the performing arts.

Kopil Bora stars alongside Urmila Mahanta, who has worked in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil and Malayalam films, as well as actors Sagarnil and Kula Kuladeep. Veteran Assamese actors Arun Nath, Baharul Islam, Kashmiri Saikia and Sanku Niranjan will appear in special guest roles.

Music is a key component of the production, with three songs composed by three music directors: Jananjay Saikia, Debajit Choudhury and Sannidhya Bhuyan, who makes his debut as a music director with the film.

The songs feature Zubeen Garg, Jananjay Saikia, Sannidhya Bhuyan, Enisha Choudhury and Tiluttoma Baruah. Pallab Talukdar is directing the background score.

The technical team includes Hiten Thakuria as director of photography, Ramen Borah as editor and Debajit Gayan for sound design.
