At least three persons have been killed and 8 others wounded when three buildings of a housing complex collapsed due to landslide at Leitang in Durtang, a few kilometers away from Aizawl, the state capital of Mizoram, on Tuesday.

The project of the BSUP Housing Complex, started in the year 2009, was completed last year with 20 building units and a community hall.

According to reports, the incident took place at around 6 pm.

Till filing of this report, three bodies have been retrieved.

The injured have been taken to hospital.

A media report quoted John LT Sanga, additional deputy commissioner, Aizawl, as confirming death of three persons. He also confirmed that 8 other persons were injured in the incident.

However, as the search and rescue operation is going on, the death toll is likely to rise.

The report also quoted LH Sangliana, additional director general of police (ADGP) as saying that the incident took place at 6 pm. He said landslide due to heavy rainfall led to the collapse of the building.

According to reports, a total of 18 families have been affected due to the landslide.

There is no whereabouts of an 8-yeasr-old child named as Lalpeksanga.

Rescue workers are at hand including the volunteers if the Young Mizo Association ( YMA) but it is hampered due to darkness.

The BSUP Housing Complex was implemented by the National Project Construction Corporation Ltd (NPCCL) and the Royal Infra Construction Ltd (RICL).

It was constructed at a cost of Rs. 26.23 crore.
