The Mizoram Tipper Association (MTA), an umbrella body of all tipper truck drivers and owners in the State, on Sunday launched a strike against ‘outsider trucks’ mostly managed by non-indigenous people.

The association has opposed entry and plying of trucks from outside the State, especially those which ferry sand and bricks, from operating inside Mizoram.

The association was of the view that these trucks from outside the State are intruding into the livelihood of the local truck owners and drivers as they were deprived of jobs owing to rapid increase in the number of trucks from outside.

Earlier in May, the association had served an ultimatum to these trucks to stop operating inside the State and threatened to launch an agitation if truckers from outside continue to transport goods.
