Guwahati: In a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations carried out across Mizoram on Tuesday, the Excise and Narcotics Department, in collaboration with Assam Rifles, seized substantial quantities of illegal drugs and arrested six individuals, including a Myanmar national, officials said on Wednesday.
The largest seizure was reported from Aizawlโs Khatla locality late Tuesday night, where officials recovered 350 grams of heroin packed in 30 soap cases. Three individuals were arrested in connection with the recovery: Vanlallianzauva (33), a Myanmar national residing in Zokhawthar in Champhai district; K.C. Lalrintluanga (38) of Ramhlun South in Aizawl and Lalhmangaihzuali (30) from Bawngkawn in Aizawl.
Authorities also confiscated a Tata Intra V17 vehicle allegedly used for transporting the narcotics.
Earlier the same day, another operation near Temple Square in Tuikual South, Aizawl, led to the seizure of 241 grams of heroin from Gin Khan Sang (28), a resident of Churachandpur district in Manipur.
In a separate joint action, the Excise and Narcotics Department and the Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Assam Rifles intercepted a consignment of 9,786 methamphetamine tablets weighing approximately 950 grams at Tlangsam village in Champhai district, close to the Myanmar border.
Two individuals, Lalramnghaka (30) and Zosangzuala (38), both residents of Zion Veng in Champhai, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
All six accused have been booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and were produced before the court on Wednesday for further legal proceedings.
