Mizoram seeks Centre’s help to upgrade lone medical college

The Mizoram government has sought the Centre’s help to upgrade its lone state level medical college, Zoram Medical College (ZMC), official sources informed on Friday.

Chief minister Zoramthanga called upon Union Health Minister, Ashwini Kumar Choubey in Delhi on Thursday evening and urged for his help to upgrade the state’s lone medical college to at least a super specialty hospital cum college.

During his meeting with the union minister, Zoramthanga informed that his government is keen on improving the health sector.

The chief minister stressed upon setting up of full-fledged hospitals in the newly created three districts of Saitual, Khawzawl and Hnahthial.

“Upgrading hospitals, community health centres, and primary health centres in different parts of the state, is the need of the hour,” said, Zoramthanga, to union minister Choubey.

He also asked for help from the union minister to upgrade Mamit district’s hospital to 200 bedded hospital, as Mamit is an aspirational district, said officials from the chief minister’s office.

Union minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey assured of looking into these demands and that he would soon visit Mizoram

Union minister Choubey, also promised to provide eight medical vans to Mamit hospital at the earliest, informed officials from the chief minister’s office.
