A schoolboy was attacked by three Bru miscreants on Tuesday at the Mizoram Tripura border village of Borai in Mamit district, the boy managed to escape from the miscreants and ran to safety.
A Mizo boy, student of Class X at Govt. Borai High School was on his way from school when he was attacked by one Bru, about his age. After putting up a fight the boy took the dao from his attacker when three adult came to the spot and started beating up the school boy.
A student body from the adjoining town of Zawlnuam who went to Borai village to take stock of the situation said that the three aldult attackers were absconding.
In order to avoid any ethnic confrontation between Mizos and the Brus in the area the Zawlnuam police outpost and students organization of Zawlnuam town are keeping vigil.
“The students organizations of Zawlnuam, do not want to flare up things at this point, but strongly demand the capture of the absconding attackers, we have identified that the attackers were from Hasimara Bru refugee camp in Tripura, to avoid security fall out, these absconding perpetrators should be arrested and be given punishment for their crime,” said K Laldinliana, secretary of Zawlnuam MZP Headquarters.
Sources from Zawlnuam said that the Young Bru Association leaders of Hasimara came to apologize to the family of the attacked schoolboy. The leaders of the Bru association told the family that the three culprits were absconding and that they were planning a massive manhunt to nab them.
A meeting was convened on Wednesday by the village council leaders of Zawlnuam which resolved that the perpetrators should apologize to the victim’s family positively by Saturday failing which all road leading to the Bru refugee camps would be blocked indefinitely.
J Malsawma, president of Langkaih Group YMA has appealed to the Bru community not to shelter the absconding culprits so that they could be brought to justice. “This is a region where inter-state boundary passes, ethnic situation can easily be flared up, so to avoid such situation, the Bru community on both sides of the boundary should be more careful in the future,” J Malsawma added.
The victim, a Class X student suffered minor injuries and is in a state of shock, community leaders of his locality Zawlpui reported.
Zawlnuam is a small village about seven kilometres from Zawlnuam town lying adjacent to Tripura.
