Mizoram Government is rocked by yet another accusation of corruption.

After State Chief Minister Lalthanhawla was accused of having disproportionate assets, this time it is the turn of State Home Minister R Lalzirliana.

The anti-corruption watchdog turned political party, People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM) has accused Home Minister R Lalzirliana of holding disproportionate assets.

PRISM general secretary S L Ngursailova Sailo while interacting with media in Aizawl alleged that the State Home Minister is currently constructing a multi-storeyed building at Durtlang in the state capital and his wealth increased to Rs 6.48 crore over the last 10 years which is disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The PRISM general secretary claimed that Lalzirliana can’t build such a huge and luxurious building worth Rs 1.5 crore with his known sources of income.

According to Sailo, the Home Minister had assets worth over Rs 49.19 lakh, including two vehicles and four buildings, according to an affidavit before the Assembly elections in 2003, which shot up to Rs 1.73 crore after five years in 2008.

He also claimed that the Home Minister declared that he has three vehicles, (a Maruti Gypsy, a 407 truck and and a Maruti Zen), one bike, five plots of land worth Rs 11.5 lakh and one building valued at Rs 1.5 crore against four in 2003 while filing nomination for the 2008 Assembly elections.

The PRISM general secretary further added that Lalzirliana had Rs 6.48 crore assets, including a building worth Rs 5.5 crore before the 2013 Assembly elections.

This, Sailo said that his total assets had increased by over Rs 5.98 crore in 10 years.

The PRISM general secretary further added that the Home Minister draws a salary of Rs 88,000 per month as a minister and his total income accumulated from salary in five years can be estimated to be about Rs 52.8 lakh.

Now the PRISM has demanded a clarification from the Home Minister or else threatened to face prosecution charges under anti-corruption act of the land.
