Aizawl: All 12 elected members of Sinlung Hills Council (SHC) in Mizoram took oaths in a function held at Aizawl deputy commissioner’s office on Monday. 

The elected members unanimously elected Lalhmingthanga of Mizo National Front (MNF) from Ratu constituency, who administered the oath of affirmation to the 11 members.

After the swearing-in ceremony, the members convened first sitting during which Ricky Lalremsanga from Vanbawng constituency was elected as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) to head the council, while R. Lalfakzuala from Tinghmun constituency has been elected as the chairman. 

The members also elected deputy chairman and four executive members during the sitting.  In the elections to the 12-member SHC held on November 5, the MNF-Hmar people’s Convention (Reformed) combine secured 7 seats defeating ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM)-Hmar People’s Convention (HPC) combine, which bagged 4 seats. 

The Congress won 1 out of 12 seats it contested, while the BJP, which contested 1 seat, drew blank.

The SHC was established on July 9, 2018, as a result of the peace accord signed between Mizoram government and the erstwhile underground Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic) or HPC(D) on April 2 that year.

The council has 12 elected members and two nominated seats.
