Following reports of Naga Framework Agreement between the NSCN(IM) and the Central Government being public in the media stating that the hill district of Dima Hasao would be indirectly included in the greater Nagalim, the people of the district have expressed mixed reactions.
A number of organizations of Dima Hasao have expressed anger at the reported proposal of the government. Because, as per the Framework Agreement, reported in the media, apart from seven districts in Manipur, two districts of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam Dima Hasao have been mentioned as Naga-dominated districts.
On the other hand, as per the Framework Agreement, as reported in the media, a separate development council would be formed in Dima Hasao for which an amount of Rs 500 crore would be allotted.
Reacting to the Framework Agreement as reported in the media, the president of the central committee of the Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU), Sidut Naiding questioned, “If Dima Hasao district is included in greater Nagalim as a Naga-dominated area, then why the other districts of Assam have been left out? On the other hand why only Dima Hasao has been chosen to be included in greater Nagalim?”
He further said that the government must give a clarification regarding inclusion of Dima Hasao if any such decision has been taken. Naiding also said that if the Framework Agreement is true as reported in the media, then the organizations across Dima Hasao would not remain silent.
