The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday directed the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) canteens and stores across the country will have to sell indigenous products from June 1.
“Prime Narendra’s Modi appeal to the nation yesterday to make India self-reliant by using indigenous products (Made In India products) will surely pave the way for India to lead the world in the times to come,” Union home minister Amit Shah tweeted.
Shah claimed the Prime Minister’s appeal as guiding light to make India the Global Leader in future.
“In this direction today, the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided that all the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) canteens and stores across the country will now sell only indigenous products, from June 01, 2020,” Shah said in a statement.
He also said that the new decision of the MHA will help 50 lakh family members of about 10 lakh CAPF personnel use indigenous products.
The CAPF canteens sell products worth around Rs 2800 crore annually.
CAPFs, which are the security forces under the MHA, includes Assam Rifles(AR), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police(ITBP), National Security Guard (NSG) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
The Home Minister also appealed to the people of the country to make use of indigenous products.
“You should use the products made in the country as much as possible and encourage others to do the same. This is not the time to be lagging behind, but to turn the crisis into an opportunity,” he added
According to Shah, if every Indian pledge to use products made in India (Swadeshi), the country can become self-sufficient in the next five years.
“Let us all strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Modi in this journey of making India self-reliant, by using indigenous products,” he said.
