A very heavy rain that lasted for nearly 30 minutes has triggered massive flash floods in various parts of Shillong city.

The flash flood also led to damage of property.

It was around 3 pm that a very heavy rain lashed out the city and brought life to a standstill.

A retaining wall also collapsed at Rilbong and few vehicles parked there were damaged. A piece of the broken retaining wall also fell on a Maruti Van bearing the registration number ML05-M-8488.

The van was severely damaged.

In many places, vehicles, especially two wheelers, could not pass through flooded roads because the force of water was very strong.

Roads were flooded mainly due to lack of proper drains.

District administration officials said that flood water also entered houses at Wahingdoh area.

However, no casualty has been reported so far.
