An investigation team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) continued its investigation in connection with the issue related to Them ïew Mawlong.
On Wednesday, the three-member investigation team recorded the statements of police, magistrate, Central Police Reserve Force, Urban Affairs officials, and three persons who were assaulted at Them ïew Mawlong on May 31 morning.
The team members were recording the statement of various people at a room in Hotel Pinewood in Shillong. The team is likely to leave Shillong on Friday.
The statement of the father of one of the youths who was assaulted at Them ïew Mawlong was also recorded by the NHRC team as part of its investigation.
An exchange of words between a bus driver and a woman who is residing at Them ïew Mawlong over the parking of a bus led to the assault of the bus driver and two other persons by some persons residing in the area. This triggered violence at nearby Motphran and Mawkhar areas on May 31 night and revived the pending demand for shifting of the settlers from Them ïew Mawlong.
Sources said the NHRC investigation team may also record the statement of East Khasi Hills district deputy commissioner and Superintendent of Police.
On Tuesday, the NHRC team visited Them ïew Mawlong and recorded the statements of some of the settlers including leaders of the Sikh community.
Sources said the NHRC sent the team after some Delhi-based organisations lodged a complaint with the NHRC, alleging that the move to relocate the settlers was a violation of human rights.
