Lone Rajya Sabha MP from Meghalaya, Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi took oath as newly-elected member on Monday after nearly three months of his election.

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma took to Twitter to congratulate Kharlukhi.

“Dr. W. R. Kharlukhi took his oath as newly-elected Member of #RajyaSabha from #Meghalaya today. I congratulate him on his new role and wish him all the best as he represents our State in the Upper House,” Sangma tweeted as he also shared the picture of Dr Kharlukhi wearing a traditional Khasi shawl, Ryndia and turban.

Kharlukhi, the candidate of the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), was elected as Rajya Sabha member on June 19.

Kharlukhi secured 39 votes while his opponent Kenndy Khyriem secured 19 votes.

In the house of 60, the MDA has the support of 41 MLAs and the Congress has 19 MLAs.
