TURA: All six men involved in the public flogging of a woman in Lower Teksagre village in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya have been arrested.

This was informed by deputy commissioner (DC) of West Garo Hills district in Meghalaya, Jagdish Chelani.

Until Wednesday (June 25) evening, five of the suspects had been arrested, with one remaining at large.

However, through relentless efforts by the Meghalaya police, the sixth suspect was captured late on Wednesday (June 26) night.

The other three, who had fled, surrendered themselves at Jengjal police station and have since been brought back to Tura to face trial.

The incident gained widespread attention after a video showing a young woman being subjected to a medieval-style public flogging went viral on social media.

The footage sparked outrage and prompted action from authorities.

In response to the video, the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW) took suo motu cognizance of the matter.

The Commission plans to meet with the victim and ensure that necessary actions are taken to address the situation and support the victim.
