Guwahati: A joint team of the excise departments of Meghalaya and Assam seized an illegal liquor factory in Ri-Bho, Meghalaya.
Sources informed that the raid was conducted based on a tip-off in Rajabagan village, located in the Byrnihat area of Ri Bhoi district.

Acting on the input, officials apprehended at least fourteen individuals, including twelve employees and two supervisors.

The raid targeted a facility suspected of functioning without valid licenses or government approval.

All materials and packaged liquor were confiscated for further investigation.
Sources said that the raid was not only directed to bust violations but also significant revenue loss to the government.

The teams further stated that strict action against those involved in the illegal production and packaging of liquor would be taken.
Meanwhile, Rajabagan village headman, Anant Timung, expressed surprise at the discovery.
He claimed the factory had been closed since 2018 and that he had no knowledge of its illegal activities.
Timung further confirmed that the village council hadn’t issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for any such operations.
