Shillong: MP from Shillong constituency, Ricky AJ Syngkon has said that the delimitation of constituencies in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC and JHADC) in Meghalaya should be a standalone process, unrelated to election schedules.
The councils’ terms have been extended twice, sparking criticism from the Voice of the People Party (VPP), which suspects a ploy to delay elections due to growing support for the VPP, it was reported.

He responded to KHADC Chief Executive Member Pyniaid Sing Syiem’s claim that voters regret supporting the VPP, saying it’s a clear message to the government that people are fed up and seeking change.
The delimitation process, aimed at redrawing constituency boundaries, has been cited as the reason for the extensions.
