Meghalaya Police have appealed to the citizens of the state to maintain a communal community and refrain from making “unsavoury comments”.
“As we are approaching the festive seasons of the various communities residing in the state of Meghalaya, let us reaffirm ourself to uphold the values of national integration & communal harmony and maintained the rubric of democracy,” Meghalaya Police tweeted.
“It is hereby appealed that the tempo of communal harmony be sustained in the state of Meghalaya and also shall be the endeavour of the state machinery to uphold it at any cost,” said the appeal issued by Meghalaya Police.

Meghalaya Police also requested the “citizens and netizens” to refrain from making “any kind of unsavoury comments.
It also urged the people to avert “enactment of any forms of social disturbance on basis of community lines vice versa so as to enable the state of Meghalaya to retain the name as a pristine state for social harmony and sets its records in the annals of history”.
“There have been some people who are trying to spread communal hatred in the social media platform and other public places intending to falter the social harmony system prevailing in the state,” it said.
“Through this medium of appeal it is exhorted that they may please refrain from such activities which negates the social fabric and anyone trying to incite communal disharmony in any form legal action shall be taken,” the appeal read.
Through the appeal, Meghalaya Police emphasised that the state machinery would invite an active participation from all the peace lover and conscientious citizens to help in their efforts to maintain an equilibrium social harmony.
It warned that “any misgiver trying to transgress the sanctity of communal harmony” shall be dealt with firmly according to the legal provisions.
The Meghalaya Police appealed to the citizens of the state to provide information, which poses threat to social harmony, to the nearest police stations.
It said, “such disclosure shall be kept confidential”.
“Help us to help you in maintaining communal harmony,” Meghalaya Police said in its appeal.
