To avoid untoward incidents, the district magistrate of Ri Bhoi has suspended plying of vehicles every night night from 7 pm to 6 am over the Bailey bridge at Umroi Dwar Ksuid (Shillong Bye-pass).

The order has been issued by the district magistrate of Ri Bhoi as the bridge has suffered damage due to plying of overloaded vehicles above 40 MT.

The decision to suspend movement of vehicles has been taken to “avoid any untoward incidents, the order said.

“Concerned authorities should ensure by proper checking at Weigh Bridge so the overloaded vehicle & vehicles having GVW more than 40MT should not pass through the Bailey Bridge,” the order said.

“I am satisfied that it is necessary to prohibit movement of overloaded vehicles above 40MT through the Bailey Bridge at Umroi- Dwar Ksuid (Shillong Bye-pass) in the interest of public order and for the safety of the road users as well as the bridge and road pavement in the area in particular and the district in general,” the DM said.

District magistrate RM Kurbah said the order has been issued in exercise of the power conferred upon her under Section 144 CrPC.

“The plying of vehicle over the Bailey bridge at Umroi-Dwar Ksuid (Shillong Bye-pass will be suspended every night from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM till July 15, 2021,” the order said.

“Plying of overloaded vehicles above 40 MT over the Bailey bridge at Umroi-Dwar Ksuid (Shillong Bye-pass) are not allowed,” the order further said.
