Guwahati: Meghalayaโ€™s electorate has declined by 7.05 per cent following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with the final list published on Monday containing 21,83,963 voters.

The state had 23,49,645 registered voters before the revision, during which 1,65,682 names were removed from the electoral rolls, officials said.

Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari said the exercise was aimed at ensuring that all eligible voters were included in the electoral roll while removing ineligible entries in accordance with the prescribed procedure.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), 6,51,736 notices were issued during the revision, and hearings were completed in all cases.

The commission also received 21,694 applications for inclusion through Forms 6 and 6A, while 2,276 applications were submitted for shifting of residence through Form 8. It received another 2,526 applications for deletion through Form 7 and 12,860 applications for corrections through Form 8.

The ECI has urged voters to verify their names in the final electoral roll through the Votersโ€™ Service Portal, the ECINET mobile application or their respective Booth Level Officers.

Special enrolment camps will also be organised across districts to ensure that eligible voters are not left out, officials said.

Citizens who are eligible to vote but whose names are missing from the final list can apply for enrolment through Form 6, subject to applicable statutory requirements.
