Former chief minister of Meghalay, Dr Mukul Sangma on Sunday made a clarion call to all those who have deserted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to join the Indian National Congress (INC).
Dr Sangma, who is the Congress candidate from Tura constituency made the appeal to all leaders particularly those who abandoned the BJP recently to join the Congress and be part of the team to save and sustain democracy, according to reports.
Dr Sangma further expressed happiness that a good number of leaders from across the political spectrum are dissociating from their respective political party to allign with the Congress.
He said that it is time for all responsible leaders to come together and seek the mandate of the people collectively, defeat the ‘fascist forces’ of the BJP and its conglomerate and pave the way for a new Congress government at the Centre which will restore ‘peace, harmony, fraternity’ among all and usher into new era where every citizen becomes a true stakeholder in the process of growth development of the nation.
Dr Sangma, who is currently the leader of Opposition in the state Legislative Assembly, will have a direct contest with NPP candidate and former union minister, Agatha K Sangma in Tura Parliamentary Constituency, polling of which will be conducted on April 11 next in the first phase of the parliamentary election.
