Shillong: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) in Meghalaya is currently examining a complaint filed by five Myntris and Basan of Nongkseh against the Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ainam Manik Syiem.
The complaint alleges that Syiem leased out a plot of land at Khlaw Mawroh without obtaining approval from the Dorbar Hima, a claim Syiem denies.

According to KHADC Deputy Chief Executive Member PN Syiem, the council has yet to review the complaint thoroughly.
However, he believes that leasing the land to generate revenue for the Hima is justified, as long as due process was followed.
The controversy surrounds a 5,000 sq ft plot allegedly leased to Naphisabet Wahlang for a furniture workshop and welding unit. Syiem maintains that the lease was legitimate, while the complainants argue it violated Hima conventions.

Additionally, the council is investigating a separate complaint filed in October 2023, accusing Syiem of misutilizing Rs 5.58 crore by issuing documents for Hima land at Iew Mylliem Rim.
The council has conducted two hearings and awaits written submissions from both parties before releasing its findings.
Syiem has threatened to file a defamation suit if the complainants fail to provide evidence within 10 days, citing attempts to tarnish his image. He denies allegations of selling the land for personal gain, labelling them “false” and motivated by “greed for power.”
