Guwahati: The West Jaintia Hills police seized an earth-mover and multiple trucks involved in illegal stone mining at Wah Myntdu in Meghalaya.

The incident occurred despite a ban imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on such mining activities.

The police took reportedly action following information received on Tuesday evening, which indicated ongoing illegal stone mining at Wah Myntdu, located at Treiongriang, Jowai. 

In response, KL Pariat, President of Khooid Ya Ka Wah Myntdu, and Jordan Rymbai, President of the Jaiñtia Students’ Movement (JSM), accompanied by officials from the Jowai Police Station, immediately rushed to the area.

Under the cover of darkness, the team discovered a dumper truck actively involved in the alleged theft of rocks from the site.

Upon questioning the truck drivers, one of them confessed that they were operating under the instructions of an individual identified as F Hinge.

This individual had allegedly ordered the workers to transport the stolen rocks to a junction in Laad Mustem.

The police seized the earth-mover and the trucks involved in the illegal activity.

Furthermore, KL Pariat and Jordan Rymbai filed an FIR against the perpetrators of the unlawful stone mining at the Jowai Police Station.
