An improvised explosive device (IED) bomb was found at the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) office in the Lower Lachumiere area in Shillong on Monday afternoon.
Proscribed Meghalaya insurgent group Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) in a Facebook post stated that the outfit planted the bomb at the ruling party office.
The bomb was recovered at a time when Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu visited Shillong to lay the foundation for upgrading a road that connects Shillong with Dawki town, along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
The Facebook page is operated by one Sainkupar Nongtraw, believed to be the publicity secretary of the banned outfit.
HNLC in the Facebook post said that the outfit has kept a bag in the NPP office that contained an IED.
A bomb squad reached the spot after police found the IED bomb.
The police have launched an operation to find out who kept the bombs at the office.
