Meghalaya: Governor Satya Pal Malik’s remarks on ILP personal views, clarifies Raj Bhawan

Just a day after Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik had stated that implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the State would be ‘harmful’, the Meghalaya Raj Bhawan has come up with a clarification.

The Meghalaya Raj Bhawan seems to have distanced itself from the remarks of Governor Satya Pal Malik on the implementation of ILP system.

The Meghalaya Raj Bhawan has in a statement has clarified that the remarks of Governor Satya Pal Malik on ILP are his “personal views”.

The Raj Bhawan in its statement said, “He has put this across as his personal views to the leadership and people of the state of Meghalaya to assess and if they still feel it is necessary he would help in taking up the matter with the Centre.”

The clarification from the Meghalaya Raj Bhawan further stated that Governor Satya Pal Malik hasn’t conveyed such a message to the Centre nor has tried to influence it in any way.

“On behalf of Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya and in view of media reports that Hon’ble Governor has indicated ILP would be “harmful to the state” – it is hereby clarified that Hon’ble Governor has never conveyed this to Government of India nor attempted to influence them in any way,” the clarification from the Raj Bhawan further read.

Earlier, Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik had said that implementation of Inner Line Permit in the State will be harmful.

Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik expressed that implementation of ILP will adversely affect the State’s tourism and investments.

“I am yet to understand on how ILP implementation would help the people of Meghalaya. There will be negligible investment and tourism. It will be harmful,” Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik had said.

The Meghalaya Governor, however, had stated that he has no objection to the travel document that envisages protection of indigenous people of the State.
