Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik and chief minister Conrad K Sangma expressed grief over the demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee and extended their condolences to the bereaved family.
Mukherjee passed away following critical illness at an Army hospital in New Delhi on Monday.

Conveying his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the former President, the Meghalaya Governor described Mukherjee as not just a revered Head of the State but also a distinguished parliamentarian, an able administrator and a fine gentleman.

The Meghalaya chief minister also expressed his grief and extended his condolences to the family of former President Pranab Mukherjee.

The chief minister termed the demise of the former President as a great loss to the nation.
“It is a great loss to the people and the nation, and I extend my deepest condolences to the family and we pray to the Almighty to give the family strength to bear this loss and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” the Meghalaya chief minister said.

“We are very saddened to hear the demise of the former President. I remember my father, late Purno A Sangma always spoke highly about him as an efficient person with facts and figures in his fingertips, and the person who knew the subjects he was looking into.
“These are the memories that I have about him. He had contributed tremendously to the nation in different capacities,” said Conrad in his condolence message.
The Meghalaya chief minister is the youngest son of former Lok Sabha Speaker, late Purno A Sangma, who had been together with the former President in politics in the past decades.
The former Lok Sabha Speaker had contested the Presidential election as an Independent candidate unsuccessfully, against Pranab Mukherjee.
Mukherjee served as the 13th President of India from 2012 to 2017.
