The Election Commission of India has fixed April 15 as the date for conducting re-poll at Konarchar polling station under Selsella Assembly constituency.

Meghalaya chief electoral officer F.R. Kharkongor on Saturday said that based on a report of the returning officer for Selsella Assembly constituency and Tura parliamentary constituency as well as reports of observers, the Election Commission after taking all material circumstances into account, has directed under Section 58(2) of the Representation of People’s Act, 1951 that the poll taken on April 11 at the polling station (Konarchar LP School) of Selsella Assembly segment is void, and fixed April 15 as the date for taking fresh poll in the polling station from 7 am to 4 pm.

Selsella Assembly seat went to by-poll together with the Lok Sabha poll to Tura parliamentary constituency on Thursday.

Two EVMs, one for Assembly by-poll, and another for Lok Sabha poll was arranged at Konarchar polling station as well as in other polling stations under Selsella Assembly constituency.

Konarchar polling station has a total of 712 voters.

The re-poll is necessitated due to crisscrossing of EVMs during the polling held on Thursday.

The crisscrossing of votes in the EVMs occurred due wrong connection of the voting machines by a presiding officer.
